History

The history of the Government Institution “L.T. Malaya Therapy National Institute of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine” began in 1980, when the Republican Cardiology Center was organized, on the basis of which in 1981, the Branch of the M.D. Strazhesko Ukrainian Research Institute of Cardiology was opened.

In 1986, under the order of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, in connection with the great social significance of therapy as the main area of medical science and practice, the branch was reorganized into the Kharkiv Research Institute of Therapy, and in 1992, the Ukrainian Research Institute of Therapy, since 2003 - Government Institution “L.T. Malaya Therapy Institute of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine”. Taking into account the national and international recognition of the Institute's activities, its scientific and practical achievements in the field of therapy, a significant contribution to the development of health care, on April 25, 2013, by the decree of the President of Ukraine, was granted the status of the National. Since the foundation of the Academy of Medical Sciences (1993), the Institute is a part of the NAMS system of Ukraine. During the joint meeting of the Board of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the Presidium of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, which took place on December 7, 2012, it was decided to establish 5 joint research centers of the Ministry of Health and Science of Ukraine.

7Academician L.T. Malaya

According to the NAMS Order No. 2-p of February 21, 2013, the Government Institution “L.T. Malaya Therapy National Institute of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine” in Kharkiv is designated as the location of the leadership of the North-Eastern Joint Scientific Center. The Head of the North-Eastern Joint Scientific Center was appointed Academician of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine Oleksandr Bilovol.

Since establishment to April 2003, the Institute was headed by Academician of the National Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Hero of Socialist Labor, and Hero of Ukraine - Lyubov Trokhimivna Malaya. Academician L.T. Malaya is a founder of a powerful modern school of therapists and cardiologists, author of more than 700 scientific works, 32 monographs. Scientific developments of L.T. Malaya are protected by 25 security documents, 5 copyright certificates, 20 patents of Ukraine and other countries. Scientific and human services of L.T. Malaya people have found national recognition: Corresponding Member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR (1967); Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine (1968); full member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR (1974); active member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences (1991); active member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (1992); initiator of foundation of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine and its current member (1993). L.T. Malaya has been awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor (1960), Bogdan Khmelnytsky III degree (1995), Yaroslav Mudryi V degree (1998), Gold Medal of the Polish Academy of Medical Sciences (1999); the title of the Hero of Socialist Labor and the Gold Medal " Hammer and Sickle" (1979); Hero of Ukraine with the State Order (1999), Orders "Golden Star” (2003) and "Patriotic War II degree" (1985), 14 medals. For series of fundamental works on cardiology, L.T. Malaya was posthumously awarded the State Prize of Ukraine (2003).

 

 

3Professor О.Ya. Babak

 From 2003 to 2012, the Institute of Therapy was headed by a student of Academician L.T. Malaya - Oleg Yakovich Babak - Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Honored Science and Technology Worker of Ukraine, Head of the Republican Problem Commission "Therapy", President of the Ukrainian Department of the World Society of Gastroenterologists, Vice-President of the Association of Gastroenterologists of Ukraine, Member of the Presidium of the Ukrainian Society of Therapists, Head of Kharkiv Scientific Society of Therapists.

Since December 2003 he headed the Department of Hospital Therapy and Clinical Pharmacology at the KhNMU.

From 2013 he has been heading the Department of Internal Medicine №1 of KhNMU.

 

 

8Professor G.D. Fadieienko

Since April 2013, the Institute is headed by Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences Galyna Dmitryvna Fadieienko - a well-known therapist and gastroenterologist, a student and follower of the therapeutic school of the Hero of Ukraine, Academician Lyubov Trokhimivna Malaya.

Head of Kharkiv Medical Society of Gastroenterologists, Member of the Presidium of the Association of Gastroenterologists and the Association of Therapists of Ukraine, Secretary of the Ukrainian Branch of the World Association of Gastroenterologists, member of the Republican Problem Commission "Therapy", Editor-in-chief of professional scientific and practical editions "Ukrainian Therapeutic Journal" and "Modern Gastroenterology".

At the initiative of G.D. Fadieienko, the visiting sessions of the therapeutic school of Academician L.T. Malaya were founded and held. These meetings are held several times a year in different cities of Ukraine and gather participants from different regions of the country.

G.D. Fadieienko is the founder and chairman of the public organization "Association of preventive medicine".

Today, the Government Institution “L.T. Malaya Therapy National Institute of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine” is a research and clinical diagnostic center, which is honored with the name of its founder and the first director of the Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Lyubov Trokhimivna Malaya. It is one of the leading institutions in the system of the Academy of Medical Sciences and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, where fundamental and applied studies in therapy are carried out, methods of optimal pharmacotherapy for the main diseases of the cardiovascular system, gastrointestinal tract, kidney, respiratory system are being developed, the epidemiology of chronic non-communicable diseases and their multifactor prevention are being studied.
