DEPARTMENT OF LIVER AND
GASTROINTESTINAL TRACT DISEASES

The Department was created in 1987. The first chief of the Department was Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Jabluchanskij M. I. Since 1991 the Head of the Department is the Honored worker of science and technique of Ukraine, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Babak O.J.
The basic aims of the research activity are studying the mechanisms of development and chronisation of gastrointestinal diseases, in particular, hepatic, gastric and duodenal inflammatory diseases, the development of new diagnostic and prognostic methods of chronic hepatitis, hepatic cirrhosis, inflammatory-destructive diseases of gastroduodenal zones; approbation and introduction of the new technologies of medicamentous and nonmedicamentous treatment, and prophylaxis of diseases of digestive organs. The important aim in the department’s activity is studying of the particularities of the course of peptic ulcer and chronic gastritis associated with Helicobacter Pylori.
